Project Overview
PavementCalculator.com is a fully static, SEO-optimized construction calculator platform built with Astro.js and deployed on Cloudflare. The site features a config-driven architecture where every calculator is defined as a data object, enabling rapid scaling to 143 calculators across 7
categories: Pavement & Asphalt, Concrete, Aggregate & Landscaping, Earthwork, Building Materials, Unit Converters, and Cost Estimators.
Each calculator includes: interactive input with imperial/metric toggling, live calculation engine, step-by-step formula breakdown, SVG diagrams, FAQ sections with JSON-LD structured data, related calculator cross-linking, dark mode, and print/PDF export. The MPA architecture generates 165 pure HTML pages for optimal SEO, with auto-generated sitemaps, search index, and full Open Graph + Twitter Card metadata.
Built with zero backend - all calculations run client-side via a custom TypeScript engine. The site is monetized through Google AdSense and targets US construction keywords with an estimated 30,000+ monthly search volume across the keyword portfolio.
The Challenge
Construction professionals and DIY homeowners rely on fragmented, ad-heavy calculator sites with poor mobile UX, no metric support, and slow load times. Existing competitors offer limited calculators with inconsistent formulas and no SEO optimization. The client needed a platform that could scale to 200+ calculators while maintaining sub-second load times and professional design.
Our Approach
Designed a config-driven architecture where every calculator is a TypeScript data object — new calculators require zero custom business logic. Built an Astro.js static site generating 165 MPA pages for maximum SEO. Implemented a custom calculation engine with unit-aware pipeline (Parse → Validate → Normalize → Execute → Convert), Lucide SVG icon system, dark mode with CSS custom properties, and JSON-LD structured data across all pages. Deployed on Cloudflare's global CDN for instant load times worldwide.
The Outcome
143 calculators deployed across 7 categories. 165 pages built in under 500ms. Perfect Lighthouse scores from pure static HTML output. Zero JavaScript by default with partial hydration for interactive components. Auto-generated sitemaps, robots.txt, and 110KB search index. Full AdSense integration with US-targeted keyword strategy covering 30,000+ monthly searches.
